In addition to typical insurance issues such as property, general liability and vehicle insurance, specific issues confront the environmental industry, some of which are as follows:

Pollution Liability

Pollution liability insurance is designed to provide coverage for on-site protection; while off-site working at a customer’s location; or while transporting hazardous waste or other pollutants. While one policy will generally provide coverage for all three incidents, each coverage part needs to be underwritten and purchased separately.

Professional Liability

Provides protection for errors and omissions an employee may make in their consulting services, contruction design services, or lab technicians in their published results, which causes monetary harm to others.

USL&H

Working over water? Your State Industrial or Workers Compensation coverage will often exclude coverage for injuries to your employees if they are working over or even around water. The answer is the United States Long Shore and Harbor Workers Compensation act, or USL&H.

The employer, including the President, Secretary and Treasurer of a corporation can be personally liable and found guilty of a misdemeanor if they fail to satisfy this insurance requirement, and possibly pay a fine of up to $10,000, up to a year in prison, or both.

Mobile Equipment

Again, working over water? Most coverage for equipment while away from your site is not covered while being used over water. The coverage is available, but often needs special handling.
