The Rucker vs. Fray Garden Challenge continues. Both families have harvested fruits and vegetables, had some successes and failures and learned some lessons for next year.
The Frays – We have enjoyed strawberries, carrots, snap peas, zucchini as well as many of our herbs in our meals. Unfortunately, we lost our kohlrabi and Cabbage to slugs and the broccoli just didn’t harvest enough to make a meal out of. We have been able to keep up with the garden, weeding and using micro irrigation. With this late hot summer we are lucky to start getting some delicious tomatoes.
The Ruckers– Gardening is hard work!!! We ate a lot of broccoli & kohlrabi early. My kids also enjoyed picking sugar snap peas for several weeks. Our strawberries came very late, and we ate what will probably be the last of them just last weekend. Our blueberries were my personal favorite. Not enough for a batch of muffins yet, but that was probably due to my constant grazing.
