Gardening for Dummies:
Two members of our staff just happened to be planting vegetable/fruit gardens this year. We thought it would be interesting to have a contest to see who’s garden is the most productive. Follow our blog to watch their trials and tribulations as they both learn as they go.
Dan Rucker
Let me ask you, who isn’t tired of the rising cost of groceries? Well my wife and I are fed up, so we decided to literally take a bite out of our grocery bill by growing our own fruits & vegetables. Our young children think food just magically appears at our local market, so we’re also excited to teach them where good food really comes from. Our last foray into gardening resulted in more weeds than food, so we have rededicated ourselves to making it work this time. To help keep me focused, one of our producers has challenged me to a garden-off. Normally, we compete over who can produce the most business, but this year, we’re going to see who can produce the most produce! Prediction: The Rucker garden will bury the Fray garden!!

I have always wanted a garden since I was a little girl watching my grandma tend to her garden in the hot Okanagan sun, having a daughter I thought it would be quite the fun little project for us both. My husband, owner of our landscaping company and wetland biologist, has been a big help, redoing the garden box at our new house and tilling in some organic compost so we have just the right mix. We are looking forward to planting our starts this upcoming weekend. We have a great spot with southern exposure and irrigation all set up. Unlike my competition Dan, I know how to take care of my yard and how to spell vegetable, so I’m confident I have the one up!

Really, Louise, Sarah? I’m gonna bury her like a pumpkin seed!
